V/R show George was born April 6, 1823 with the name PIERCE. He was the son of Elisha B. & Harriet B. (Taber) Pierce of Dartmouth. His surname is also spelled Pierce in his "U.S. Civil War Soldier Records and Profiles".
George at 23, a laborer, married Eliza J. Gifford, 20, (daughter of David H. & Marina (Tripp) Gifford) on May 7, 1846 in New Bedford, MA - Source: Westport Vital Records to 1850.
He is shown as a mariner in the birth data for his daughter Eudora. George lived on Cornell Road, Westport and is identified as a Civil War veteran in the typed manuscript "Westporters in the Civil War" authored by Andrew C. Macomber & Richard W. Wertz.
