Supplementary Information0 Marked Stones in this Cemetery There is no G.R. number for this cemetery. This cemetery was the center of outrage when the ELJ company allegedly removed stones which were found near a stone crusher. This action was reported by David Anctil. The District Attorney did not pursue the case in court, but the Town of Westport did. Although there was no penalty to ElJ directly, by court order, PAL was hired by ELJ to research and register the cemetery. Research was done by Public Archaeology Laboratory(PAL)on the existence of remains and on the history of the property. The stones were replaced and a proper dedication ceremony was done with several people present. PAL mentions that this is possibly a Howard family cemetery. The wooden stacks in the cemetery photo indicate the location of the unmarked gravestones which were replaced after being removed by the owners. Richard Gifford suggests it has the remains of Jeremiah Devol, perhaps his parents or grandparents, perhaps brothers and sisters, his two wives and children and grandchildren.
